Christian Baden

Christian Baden (M.A. in Political Science and Communications, University of Leipzig; MSc in European Political Economy, London School of Economics) is a PhD candidate at the Amsterdam School of Communications Research (ASCoR). In his PhD thesis (Communication, Contextualization, and Cognition in the European Public Sphere), he investigates how voters utilized the information available in public discourse to make up their minds about European politics in case of the Dutch EU Constitutional Referendum. His research focuses on the nexus between cognitive and communicative framing, seen from the perspective of the audience. Other research interests include the European political public sphere, the structures of public discourse, public beliefs about and attitudes towards political events, as well as discourse comprehension and information processing. His work is both qualitatively and quantitatively oriented, with particular stress on network analytic methods. Aside research methodology, he teaches courses in political semiotics and discourse, as well as strategic political communication.

He is currently a guest lecturer at Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich.
