Immigration

The news media pay a lot of attention to issues of immigration and integration. This coverage matters in several ways. It matters for how citizens perceive other groups, for how they evaluate processes of integration, and for their voting behavior and support for right-wing, anti-immigration parties. Members of the CPC are doing research on the content and effects of media coverage on immigration and integration in several European countries.

We are planning to extent this line of research in the future. Currently, members of the CPC are involved in grant applications to NORFACE and the Dutch science foundation to extend this line of research. A PhD project within ASCoR looking at the effect of media framing on anti-immigrant attitudes in the Netherlands started in 2008.
