Doris Graber

This week we received the sad news that Doris Graber passed away. Doris Graber was a central to the development of the political communication sub-discipline. She was the founding editor of Political Communication, our joint ICA-APSA journal. Dr Graber spent most of her career at the University of Illinois, Chicago (PhD Columbia University). She was a prolific author and her books include classics like Processing the News, Media Power in Politics, and Mass Media and American Politics. She won numerous awards and recognitions for her life long contributions. Her work was appreciated across the globe.
Many students and early career researchers have benefitted from Doris’ mentoring skills. She was insightful, sharing and caring. She was a dedicated scholar, a role model, and a tireless source of inspiration. Her career lasted for more than 70 years and she made a tremendous impact on research in political communication, public opinion, and political psychology.
The APSA Political Communication section recognizes the best book published on political communication in the last ten years with the Doris A Graber Award.
