Associate Professor
Damian Trilling is a professor of journalism studies at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Before joining Vrije Universiteit in 2024, he worked from 2009 onwards at the department of communication science at Universiteit van Amsterdam and the Amsterdam School of Communication Research. At UvA, he received his PhD on changing patterns of media use in 2013, and held subsequent positions as lecturer, assistant professor, and associate professor. He is also an affiliated associate professor at University of Bergen, Norway. He applies a wide range of methods in his work, but is especially interested in computational approaches to complement more traditional ways of studying media use and media content. Conceptually and theoretically, one question stays central in his work: How are citizens keeping up and engage with news and current affairs in the current media environment – and which role do journalists, news media, social media, and technical innovations play in this process?
