My PhD project examines news diversity from three perspectives: content, audience perceptions, and exposure. First, we use Natural Language Processing techniques to analyze the diversity of topics, actors, and viewpoints in news across different media systems. Second, through a cross-national survey, we investigate how audiences perceive news diversity and identify both individual- and system-level factors shaping these perceptions. Finally, we design and test a diversity-aware news recommender system to assess exposure diversity of news on social media platforms.
