Alyt Damstra is a PhD candidate in Political Communication at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR). In the project ‘Media Coverage as a Catalyst for Economic Crises? Causes, Content and Consequences of Economic News Coverage’, Alyt studies the role of economic news coverage during the financial crisis in the Netherlands. The focus is on key actors trying to influence the news, the content of the news itself and the consequences of the coverage, for example the effects it might have on political party support. Alyt’s supervisors are Prof. dr. Rens Vliegenthart, Dr. Knut de Swert and Dr. Mark Boukes.
Alyt holds a Bachelor of Science degree (cum laude) in Political Science from the University of Amsterdam and completed the Research Master Social Sciences (cum laude) at that same university.
