dr. Mónika Simon

PostDoc

Mónika Simon is a computational social scientist specializing in political communication and journalism. She obtained her training and PhD at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR) and currently holds a postdoctoral position at ASCoR as part of the University Research Priority Area on Trust in the Digital Society (TRUST RPA). In this role, she works with the broader interdisciplinary RPA team to explore the many facets of trust and distrust in the contemporary media system. Her research combines computational methods with more traditional quantitative approaches to unpack the complex dynamics that shape political attitudes, beliefs, and behavior. With a background in computational social sciences, her work pays particular attention to information flows across platforms, including the often-overlooked dynamics of so-called “dark platforms,” where hidden or less-visible online interactions contribute to broader shifts in media trust and democratic discourse.
